COMIC NEWS: WHO GUARDS THE GLOBE?

Robert Kirkman launches Invincible spin-off with GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE

Invincible is off fighting the Viltrumite War, so who's watching the shop while he's away? GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE, a new six-issue miniseries coinciding with INVINCIBLE: The Viltrumite War, tells Earth's story.

In GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE -- cowritten by superstar Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead, The Astounding Wolf-Man) and Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve, Invincible Presents: Atom Eve & Rex Splode) and drawn by gifted newcomer Ransom Getty -- heroes both familiar and new struggle to protect Earth in Invincible's absence.

"Needless to say, Invincible, Spawn, Rick Grimes, President Obama, and a certain boy wizard aren't GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE," jokes Robert Kirkman. "The teasers released this week have been all in fun, but next week's teasers will get down to business, revealing who's a Guardian. Invincible's absence due to the Viltrumite War has left people vulnerable, and GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE will answer the question, 'What's up on Earth?'"

Tune in next week to find out who protects Earth while Invincible is away as the GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE teasers continue!

GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE, a six-issue miniseries written by Robert Kirkman and Benito Cereno and drawn by Ransom Getty, will start its run in August 2010.

During the CBGB Stories panel, a limited edition, original CBGB single page comic by Jesse Blaze Snider (DEADPOOL, TOY STORY) and Eisner Award-winner Chuck BB (BLACK METAL) will be passed out to the audience and press.

The four issue mini-series hitting store shelves this July, features the finest veteran and rookie talents in comics, portraying the tales of music, discovery, heartbreak, confusion, rebellion and greatness.

The first issue’s cover is by superstar LOVE & ROCKETS cartoonist Jaime Hernandez. Also confirmed for the anthology are Ana Matronic (songstress for Grammy-nominated band SCISSOR SISTERS), Kieron Gillen (PHONOGRAM, THOR), Kim Krizan (Academy Award-nominated writer of BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE SUNRISE) Chuck BB (Eisner wining artist of BLACK METAL), Kelly Sue DeConnick (30 DAYS OF NIGHT: EBEN & STELLA), Rob G. “BOOM! got what we were about” says Louise Staley of CBGB. “Our attitude jumps off every page.”

“The club was as much about those in the mosh pit as it was the bands that played there,” adds Robert Williams of CBGB. “The narrative in this series celebrates both.”

The four-issue mini-series will be followed by a mass market hardcover collection in November, produced with the same high quality and attention to detail BOOM! has invested in all their collections.

CBGB Issue #1 ships to direct market comic shops this July and features a cover by Jaime Hernandez, stories by Kieron Gillen and Sam Humphries and art by Marc Ellerby and Rob G. Both the comic series and the hardcover will be published under BOOM!
