COMIC NEWS: THIS IS THE DOUBLE-SIZED END

The page count is increasing for THE SWORD's finale.

Image Comics announced today that critically acclaimed series THE SWORD by the Luna Brothers will get a double-sized send off. THE SWORD #24 is increasing its page count to 40 pages, with a cover price of $4.99.

"Like GIRLS #24, we absolutely needed more pages to tell the final issue of The Sword," said artist Jonathan Luna. "We were trying to fit it all in 22 pages, but there's just so much to tell. We hope everyone enjoys more story!"

Writer Joshua Luna added: "This is the ending we've been keeping a secret and dying to reveal since this series' conception, so we cannot wait until readers get their hands on it."

"We couldn't be more excited about the conclusion of the Luna's third miniseries at Image," stated Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "They've created yet another extraordinary series with THE SWORD and this double-sized final issue of THE SWORD is the send off the series and its fans deserve!"

THE SWORD tells the story of Dara Brighton, a young woman who witnesses the murder of her family at the hands of three very powerful elemental beings who are after a sword in her father's possession. In the aftermath, Dara attains the sword, which gives her incredible abilities beyond her wildest imagination. In THE SWORD #24, Dara Brighton's epic quest for revenge against the three elementals who murdered her family comes to its conclusion.

THE SWORD #24 (MAR100401), a 40-page full color comic book for $4.99, will be in stores May 12, 2010. Also available are THE SWORD: FIRE, collecting issues #1-6; THE SWORD: WATER, collecting issues #7-12; and THE SWORD: EARTH, collecting issues #13-18.

TOY NEWS: SUPER SHOGUN EARLY BIRD ENDING!

"EARLY BIRD" SPECIAL TO END FOR SUPER7'S STORMTROOPER SUPER SHOGUN

The countdown to the end of the "Early Bird" discounts has begun at STARWARS.SUPER7STORE.COM. This is the final week for collectors to preorder Super7's Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun and qualify for the following benefits:

* FREE SHIPPING of the mammoth toy - a $30 savings! (This offer applies to continental US only.)
* An exclusive EARLY BIRD commemorative certificate
* Guaranteed to receive the STORMTROOPER SUPER SHOGUN itself before any other customer

The Early Bird special is inspired by the original Christmas 1977 preorder event in which fans were treated to a certificate while they waited for the first-ever Star Wars figures to arrive. Super7 s Early Bird program concludes at 12:00am Midnight PST next Wednesday, March 17th. The retail price of this highly anticipated, limited-edition collectible is $299, and will be released on Saturday May 29th, just in time for the 20th anniversary of Episode IV: The Empire Strikes Back!

The Star Wars Stormtrooper Super Shogun stands a whopping 24 inches tall, and includes all of the features that you expect from an authentic Jumbo: free rotating wheels on the bottom of his feet, and a spring-loaded Rocket Punch firing fist.

Utilizing the same techniques implemented by Japanese toy manufacturers in the 1970s, the Super Shogun is constructed from durable, blow-molded polyethylene with a painted vinyl helmet. The figure is articulated at the neck and shoulders, and includes a removable, highly-detailed BlasTech E-11 laser blaster, which even features a posable stock that unfolds from below the barrel. This marks the first authentic Super Shogun produced in over twenty-five years.

COMIC REVIEW: A-Team Shotgun Wedding (IDW)

I have mixed feelings about the upcoming A-Team movie. I loved the show as a kid. Mr. T with his "I pity the fool" and Hannibal's "I love it when a plan comes together." I still want a van like theirs. But a movie? And a comic based on said movie? IDW has done such a thing.

In A-Team Shotgun Wedding, writer Tom Waltz and artist Stephen Mooney introduce us to the familiar characters on a mission in the Bering Strait. Mooney draws the team as their current incarnation, with broad strokes of Liam Neeson, Rampage Jackson, and Bradley Cooper. (Even so, when I was reading B.A.'s lines, Mr. T's voice was in my head.) The story was what I would expect from an episode of the show: a little action, a lot of snark, and good guys winning. I'm interested to see how this story goes and how or if it ties into the film.

If you can't wait for the movie, or if you're nostalgic for the old show, this will tide you over. I don't know if it would hold anyone's interest outside of that.
